ATC SCM-20PSL
SCM20 – Can be active or passive
Overview
The hybrid design incorporates a 150mm bass cone on to which is grafted a 75mm soft dome.
The magnet assembly utilises ATC’s unique “SL” technology which greatly reduces distortion in moving coil drive units by a very significant 12-15dB (3rd harmonic). To minimise Time Domain Distortion both dome and cone are made from acoustically “dead” polyester wave material doped with ATC’s own formulation.
Not only does the SCM20SL reproduce bass with remarkable articulation and authority, it also has outstanding mid-band clarity, incredible dynamic range, and awesome power handling.
The active tower version (SCM20ATSL) is powered by the ATC “Grounded Source” Bi-amplifier. The bass/mid is driven with 200 watts, while the tweeter has 50 watts of class “AB” power.
Both amplifiers feature momentary gain reduction circuitry which both protects drive units and prevents unpleasant sounds from overdrive.
Accompanied by either ATC SCA2 or CA2 preamp the SCM20AT will outperform any other combination in its price range and many costing far more.
An all-time classic still available and in any veneer to special order.

Realising the Dream
The unique, one-piece thin-wall cabinet of the MINISSIMO is the best enclosure possible to make, which brings the innovative ARABESQUE concept a full circle. The shape was inspired by nature, but it took cutting-edge computer modelling to transform that inspiration into reality. Now, five years later, high-tech materials and manufacturing are used to fully realize its benefits. But in order to keep Crystal Cable’s vision of the loudspeaker as an integrated system solution, we needed to look again at every aspect of the design.
Starting with drive units, we soon found that the SEAS parts we used so successfully in the ARABESQUE MINI could be employed again. But the superior mechanical performance of the MINISSIMO cabinet with its even lower coloration levels and reduced smearing of time and phase information allowed us to develop the ground-breaking Natural Science crossover topology*, delivering unprecedented resolution and phase linearity, coupled to a non-reactive impedance characteristic, maximizing speaker AND amplifier performance. All internal wiring employs Crystal Cable’s latest mono-crystal silver conductors. While the stand design and materials were also further refined to match perfectly with the new cabinet. The result is a true speaker system with the least distortion of any enclosure of its size. TheMINISSIMO plays music with breath-taking levels of harmonic and dynamic resolution. This elegant new design uses the configuration first exploited in the prestige Neat Ultimatum XL6 loudspeaker. The top section is sealed off from the lower, and incorporates two sealed chambers, operating as a two-way infinite baffle loudspeaker. There are two frequent problems with hi-fi amplifiers. Class A, the traditional audiophile’s choice, uses a single power supply constantly running at full capacity, even when there’s no signal coming through. Great for reproducing those subtle details at low levels however struggles to provide extreme power when needed.
Class A/B, the most common amp class, switches between the two internal amplifiers, one for each half of the waveform. Far more efficient but often a recipe for crossover distortion, since those low-level details we crave can get lost within any mis-match between the two switching over.

Designing the P20 was not a task Hegel took lightly. Many of the ideas and concepts were taken from its bigger brother. Although scaled down, many of the good characteristics remain: the enormous soundstage, the deep rhythmic bass response, the perfect timing… In short, the sense of being there with the performers.
The P20 comes with a high-quality system remote control, milled out of one solid piece of aluminium. It has the same bead blasted and anodized surface finish as the preamplifier itself. You can really feel the quality of each part of the P20; not only hear it. There is a total of 5 regular inputs. Both balanced and unbalanced. In addition, a special Home Theatre input allows integration in Home Theatre systems. Finally, there are both balanced and unbalanced outputs as well as a fixed line-level output.
The idea behind the P20 was, as mentioned, to offer a more affordable entry into our line of separates. But most of all, it was to set a new standard of price and performance in preamplifiers. Something we think Hegel have achieved. The preamplifier is perhaps the most delicate unit in a sound system. Because the signal levels are so low, even the tiniest levels of noise or distortion smear the image and mask the small details that enliven the music.
In designing the P20, Hegel achieved the highest quality of sound at such a low price point by using brand new technologies, such as Silicon Germanium transistors. In addition, Hegel implemented high-frequency components that were not originally designed for audio, and use them in ways that had never been done before. The result is an open and natural sounding preamplifier at a very competitive price.

Despite what many hi-fi enthusiasts believe, preamplifiers are actually one of the most difficult audio components to develop. At the same time, it is one of the most important components in a well-sounding system. The reason is that the signal strength is very low when entering the preamplifier, and is therefore very susceptible to high-frequency noise and distortion elements. The most critical phase in the preamplifier is the volume regulation, and in the P30 this is a masterpiece in itself. The physical volume control knob is only used to describe the desired volume output level to the array of Gigahertz MOS-transistors. These direct the music signal through a network of high-quality resistors that reduce the signal level.
After the volume control circuit, the signal is directed through the amplification circuit. For the first time ever Hegel is using the patented SoundEngine technology in the preamplifier. Combined with Hegel’s use of hand-matched FET transistors, this results in unsurpassed levels of musical distortion and noise. In total, the music signal will only pass through 2 transistors and between 1 to 3 resistors on its way through the P30. The sound you hear from the P30 can only be described as organic and very natural. To quote a journalist; “The Hegel sounds so much more natural than my previous reference. And it does so without flashing itself with gold and diamonds”.
The Hegel P30 has 2 pairs of balanced inputs (XLR) and 3 regular unbalanced (RCA). In addition to this, it has a Home Theatre input that allows you to integrate it into a Home Theatre system. The LM-845 Premium is the result of many years of research on the 845 triodes Single Ended design. Thanks to its exceptional design and manufacturing quality, it is fast becoming the absolute reference in the high-end amplifiers world. With a power output of 2x30W, it can be used with most of the existing reference speakers.
The LM-845 Premium is a combination of two units: One is the amplifier unit and the other is Outputs unit. In the amplifier unit the main amplifier and power supply parts are included while in the outputs unit output transformer and speaker outputs parts are included.
Amplifier unit and outputs unit are connected with two separate well-built connectors and cables for which you can put up and down or left and right.
All tube Integrated with 12AX7 input tubes, 310A signal amplification stage, 300B driver tubes and 845 output tubes. Well selected and matched tubes. Tubes we chose are Shuguang 12AX7, Line Magnetic 310A, Shuguang 300B and Shuguang 845.
Two user bias controls for 300B and 845 have been used for bias adjustment and two meters has been added to the front plate to allow you to monitor bias with ease.
Negative Feedback switch is on the front plate that you can choose between two levels of NFB to enjoy the different sound outputs.
In LM-845 Premium it includes eight transformers. Two pieces of power transformers, two output transformers, two coupling driver transformers, two chokes. In order to have a stable and better power supply, we have designed two pieces of specially designed Toroid power transformers in Balance. EI type of output transformers is installed in the outputs unit separately to lower interfere from the external radio frequency.

Forty-two watts per channel, Class AB Integrated Stereo Amplifier with KT88 output power tubes, 6CL8A and 12BH7 input tubes. Tubes we selected for the amplifier is Electro Harmonix 12BH7, Mullard 6CL8A and JJ Electronics KT88.

LM-88IA Amplifier can operate in two different ways Auto-biased or Fixed Bias. You can select the one you prefer. Power output for Auto-bias mode is 45 watts while for fixed bias it is 30 watts per channel. Once worked in Auto-bias mode it outputs a more warmth sound and go near to the way of Class A operation.
